  1. Maryland A fascinating state with lots to learn about.

  2. State flower, bird, and tree • Maryland’s state flower is the Black-Eyed Susan. As you see, it looks like a sunflower. The Black-Eyed Susan was chose as the state flower in 1918.The state bird is the Baltimore Oriole, which was chosen in 1947. The tree is the White Oak.

  3. Map and industries • As you can see, some of the main cities in Maryland are Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Salisbury. There are also mountains. Some industries in Maryland are in charge of making car parts, since an industry is also mining.

  4. Agricultural and Non-agricultural products • 5 to 12-week-old chickens are one of Maryland's agricultural products. Other agricultural products are cattle, eggs, chicken, wheat, hay, barley, eggs, hogs, turkeys, and apples. Non-agricultural products include computers, electronics, marble, and clay.

  5. State quarter and license plate • The state quarter shows the Maryland state house. It also shows the state nickname the Old Line State. It also shows the year that Maryland was established, 1788. The license plate shows houses and a few words. They are not the motto.

  6. State Flag • The Maryland state flag is made up of 4 colors. They are yellow, black, red, and white. The design of the flag is taken from the shield in the coat of arms of the Calvert family. The Calvert family were the first colonial owners of Maryland. George Calvert was the first Lord Baltimore.

  7. State Seal • Maryland’s state seal is one of very few places in the world to have a double-sided seal. The pictures shown on one side of the seal are a fisherman, a farmer, and a shield with the flags design. The words around the seal are in Latin but in English it is, "With favor wilt thou compass us as with a shield." In Italian the motto is on a banner meaning “Manly Deeds, Womanly Words.”

  8. Attractions • Adventure Park, USA is popular attraction in Maryland. It is a family entertainment center, featuring activities such as mini golf, go karts, and rollercoasters. Another attraction is the Eastern shore. It is a region with historic towns, beautiful beaches and many natural areas. If you love nature you will love the Eastern Shore.

  9. Facts • Maryland’s statehood date was April 28,1778. It was the 7th state. Francis Scott Key the national anthem writer was born in Maryland. It is the 42nd biggest state. Maryland was named after Queen Henrietta Maria. It is the 19th most popular state in the U.S. There are 5,296,407 people living in Maryland. The state sport is jousting. Maryland has 2 nicknames, the Free State and the Old Line State. The state crustacean is the blue crab.
