  1. News and Newsletter Dissemination Elena M. Padilla, MS Reference Librarian Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Special Libraries Association Pharmaceutical & Health Technology Division Spring Meeting Orlando, FL April 10-11, 2011

  2. Current Format • Word file, distributed in-line via Outlook • Content is typical of Pharma, e.g. news, clinical literature • Each newsletter “theme” is based on TA • Schedule varies from weekly to monthly

  3. Why Change? • Format was designed with vendors/content providers offered TOCs, email alerts, etc. • Vendors/content providers now offer RSS content • The latter would make it easier for “back-ups” to cover a newsletter • Current process is time/labor intensive for formatting

  4. Selection Criteria • One application • Integrated with RSS feeds (feed reader) • Real-time feed updating • Desktop publishing capabilities • Significant time savings • Easy to distribute (email) • Archiving • Statistics

  5. Experience with Implementation • Version trialed is not what was delivered • Users unhappy with change / new workflow • Labor and time increased (w/new version of the tool) • Unfamiliarity with RSS • Vendor very receptive to helping us resolve issues
