  1. Salem Witch Trials Objective Connect various historical events to literature

  2. Imagine… • You are put in a position where, regardless of anything you do or say, you will undergo terrible punishment. • If you confess to the crime, you will be killed. • If you deny it, you will be killed. • What do you do? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB1OWwFTZ8U&feature=related

  3. Connection to Animal Farm? • How do the Salem Witch Trials connect to George Orwell’s Animal Farm? • What , in your opinion (as well as according to the video and the book) do you think are the reasons for these events?

  4. Animal Farm Connection • Confessing to have been secretly in touch with Snowball (in hopes of being shown mercy?) • Number of other animals who confess to Snowball-inspired crimes, however, suggests the degree to which paranoia has gripped the animals, who now feel the need to admit to things as slight as stealing an ear of corn or urinating in the drinking water

  5. In Both Cases... Seemingly rational people (or animals) confessed to something untrue, exaggerated or unnecessary as a way to relieve their psychological torments. How would you explain Boxer’s saying it must be “some fault in ourselves”?
