  2. When did the events of the Salem Witch Trials take place? • The Salem Witch Trials occurred in 1692.

  3. What happened in the Salem witch trials? • Salem Witch Trials- series of hearings and prosecutions of people who were accused of witchcraft • People had a strong belief that Satan was active on Earth every day. Magic was viewed as associated with the devil and evil spirits. If you were accused of doing witchcraft you were then punished. • These hearings led to the hanging of nineteen men and woman, along with one man who was crushed to death and seven others died in prison.

  4. What factors of the times contributed to the outbreak of the events that surrounded the Salem Witch Trials? • A strong belief that Satan was acting in the world • This was during a time of troubles - Ex: Smallpox outbreak • Threat of attack by warring tribes fear and suspicion

  5. some of the sites of witch craft hysteria during the witch hunts of the late seventeenth century • Some people had been accused of witchcraft by tormented young girls as their cause of pain. • Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams came down with strange aliment, and the doctors couldn’t find anything physically wrong with the two girls. Since the doctor couldn’t find anything wrong, it was decided they were bewitched.

  6. Who were some real people involved in the Salem Witch Trials? What role did two of these people play? • -Bridget Bishop was the first person executed for witchcraft in 1692. She was accused of witchcraft because she owned taverns, played shuffleboard, dressed provocatively, and was outspoken. Bridget was accused of bewitching five young women. The whole town went against her and within eight days she was executed. • -Sarah Good was stereotyped as a stereotypical witch. She was one of the first three woman to be executed in the 1692 trials, and she was the first to testify.

  7. What happened if you confessed to witchcraft? • If you confessed to witchcraft you were spared because confessing was seen as an act of God.

  8. What happened if you maintained your innocence? • If they maintained their innocence they then had to blame someone else for doing witchcraft.
