Ph237 - Gravitational Waves Week 1: Overview

In this first week of the Gravitational Waves course, we explore the fundamental nature of gravitational waves. These waves cause freely floating objects to experience forces that push them apart or bring them together. We examine how local inertial frames do not coincide, similar to the way Cartesian coordinates on Earth's curved surface fail to mesh. The curvature of spacetime fundamentally affects the behavior of these waves, providing deeper insights into the universe's structure and the nature of gravity itself.
