    3. Major Changes Repeals the Teacher Tenure Act and Fair Dismissal Act Returns discretion to local boards Reduces payroll time for terminated employees Changes process for terminations & transfers Exempts RIFs and partial cancellations Eliminates criminal stays

    4. Whos Covered? Teacher Tenure Act/ Fair Dismissal Act Students First Act Instructor, supervisor or principal Classified employees Teacher Any employee required to have certificate Includes tenured principals Classified employee Bus drivers Cafeteria workers Custodians Supervisors (non-certificated) Superintendents and CSFOs are excluded

Gaining Protection Teacher Tenure Act/ Fair Dismissal Act Students First Act Teachers 3 consecutive years, including partial Nonrenewal by last day of 3rd year Classified Employees 3 calendar years Not consecutive Teacher 3 consecutive, complete years Oct 1 - complete year Notice by June 15 in years 1 and 2 June 30 if quadrennium Notice by last day of school in year 3 Classified employee 3 consecutive, complete years Oct 1- complete year Notice by June 15 June 30 if quadrennium

Termination of Probationary Employees Teacher Tenure Act/ Fair Dismissal Act Students First Act Teachers Not addressed Due process Recommendation & vote Classified Employees Recommendation & vote 3 year anniversary 15 days notice (pay) Teacher During the year 30 days notice of recommendation Teacher can give written statement Board votes, pay ends End of the year Recommendation and vote June 15 (or 30th) in year 2 Last day of school in year 3 Classified employee Recommendation & vote Prior to June 15 (or 30th) of 3rd consecutive year 15 days notice (pay)
