  2. #1-DUMPSTER DIVING WHAT IT IS • One easy way for a thief to get a hold of your information is by going through the trash that you put out in your dumpster. • When dumpster diving, thieves typically look for financial statements, receipts, or credit card bills. • Thieves often try to steal pre-approved credit cards, either from your trash can or your mailbox. HOW YOU CAN PREVENT IT • One way is to shred all of your important documents and anything with your private information on it.

  3. #2-PHISHING EMAILS WHAT IT IS • Phishing emails are probably the most common way that identity theft occurs online. • Emails that appear to be from your bank, your credit card company, or online stores like eBay and Amazon.com ask for you to click a link and enter your information for random reason they invented. • Usually they claim that your account has been accessed and/or fraud is expected or already happened. HOW YOU CAN PREVENT IT • Don’t believe the E-Mails • NEVER respond!!!!! NEVER!!!!!!!! • Just delete it, ignore it, it is FAKE

  4. #3-SKIMMING WHAT IT IS • Skimming is another form of identity theft fraud. • It can be done by restaurants and other businesses that have to ask for your card for payments. • Servers take your card so pay for your meal, but they also scan your card with a device that allows them to copy the magnetic strip on the credit card and make a duplicate of your credit card for there use. HOW YOU CAN PREVENT IT • Be careful when handing your card out to pay. • Watch them to make sure nothing funny is going on.

  5. #4-SHOULDER SURFING WHAT IT IS • A method called shoulder surfing is also a very common way to steal a person’s private credit card information. • Thieves try to take a video of you punching your information or PIN number in at a cash register or ATM. • The most common way to do this is by using a cell phone, because a thief can pretend to be texting or checking email while they point the video camera at you as you type in your information or PIN number. HOW YOU CAN PREVENT IT • Be very careful of who is around you when you are typing in your information. • Politely ask people to step away or point their phones another direction if they are bothering you.
