  2. Halloween has strong roots in paganism • Closely connected with the worship of Satan • Glorifies dark things of this world, rather than the light of Jesus Christ • Costumes & decorations are scary, and getting worse each year • Grotesque is increasingly glorified in North America (TV & games)

  3. Origin dates back to 2,000 years ago - Druids honoured the dead (Celtic culture in Ireland, England & Northern Europe) • Celebration based on superstition • Celts believed souls of the dead roamed at night – tormenting the living • To be friendly, gifts and treats were offered: “trick-or-treating”

  4. We are NOT “missing-out” by NOT participating in scary costumes • As Christians, we are different, and not of this world • “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul” • (1 Pet. 2:11)

  5. WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS … • "Test everything. Hold on to the good. Cling to what is good.“Romans 12:9 • “do not learn to imitate detestable ways, including spiritists, sorcerers and witchcraft” Deuteronomy 18:9-14 • "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness … live as children of light"Ephesians 5:11-12
