  6. Zechariah 14:1-3 • 1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. • 2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. • Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. • Step 1: God reveals the end of the story • Step 2: Determine where we are in relation to the end • Step 3: Identify what must still come to pass Bible prophecy enables us to know the end of the story, to anticipate future events Step 1= can read and learn the end (the last chapter) of the “story” of latter day prophetic events first Step 2 = then examine world events to determine where we are (how far we have progressed) in the prophetic story Step 3 = then determine the additional steps (events) God will bring to pass to achieve the prophesied end (intended to provide encouragement as we watch the anticipated events unfold)

  7. Jesus returns Resurrection and Judgement seat Elijah’s work begins Israel prosperous and secure Israel overrun by Gog’s invasion Armageddon Kingdom established in Israel Jews return, Elijah’s work continues Warfare in Europe All nations subdued Kingdom established worldwide Chronology of events at Christ’s return

  8. From the 2nd coming to the Kingdom • 10 years from resurrection/judgment to Gog’s invasion • Each judgment occurs over a period of time • All unfulfilled prophecy related to the Christ’s return could be fulfilled during this 10 year period The Final Battle – Rev 17:10; 19:11-21 Beast & False prophet end in lake of fire The Return of Christ: resurrection & jud seat TheFall of Babylon (Rome) and nations invited to submit Gogian invasion of Israel Armageddon 10 years 10 years 30 years Kingdom begins

  9. Ezekiel 38 – A foundation prophecy • Latter day: (v8,16) • Israel: • The focus of the prophecy, is invaded (v8,14,16,18,19, 39:2,4) • A young nation, restored by war; land had been a waste (v8) • Now financially prosperous, the envy of the invaders (v12-13) • Invaders: • An enormous army (v4,9,15); from the north (v6,15, 39:2); requiring 7 months to bury after its defeat (39:12) • Nearly all nations mentioned in Ezekiel or Gen 10 • Some readily known: Persia (Iran), Libya, Ethiopia, Togarmah (Turkey/Armenia); Ezekiel uses Magog, Gomer for Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc. • “chief prince” (v2): “prince of Rosh” (RV) Even absent historians/linguists: a massive army, out of the north, invades Israel

  10. Biblical proof: Settlement of nations in Gen 10 By Ezekiel’s day, a northward and westward migration into present day Europe

  11. Historical proof: Ancient Historians help identify the nations of Ezek 38 Josephus 37-100AD Herodotus 484-425BC Strabo 63BC-24AD Diodorus Siculus 64-21BC

  12. Israel to be attacked from all directions!

  13. The TARSHISH POWER • Key Tarshish references: • Sea faring nation: 2 Chron 9:21; Isa 23:1; 60:9; Ezek 27:25 • Descendant from Japheth: Gen 10:4 • Reknown for its metals – Isa 23: Ezek 27:12 • A maritime power – Isa 2:16 • There as a merchant, not a military power Tarshish nations don’t save Israel and can’t stop the Gogian invasion -

  14. DEDAN DEDAN SHEBA Ezek 38:13 RV Sheba, and Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, “Have you come to take a plunder?” Eventually ally themselves, along with Tarshish, to Israel’s new king – Isa 60, Psa 72

  15. Gog’s evil motives vs. God’s total control • Gog comes with an evil intent (v10), to catch an unsuspecting & defenseless Israel (v11,14) & to take an easy spoil (v12-13) • 7 times the supposed security of Israel is emphasized; it’s become a matter of national pride and self (over) confidence; being a sign of her weakness, not her strength • God calls this period a time of trespass (39:23); the nation will not come to know God until after Gog is destroyed (v22: “from that day forward”) • Not only is Israel caught off guard, so are her allies

  16. Man’s walls do not deter God’s Plan Europe in Cold War – post WWII 1989: Fall of Berlin wall 1992: Maastrict treaty: euro born Israel 2013

  17. Gog’s evil motives vs. God’s total control • Gog comes with an evil intent (v10), to catch an unsuspecting & defenseless Israel (v11,14) & to take an easy spoil (v12-13) • 7 times the supposed security of Israel is emphasized; it’s become a matter of national pride and self (over) confidence; being a sign of her weakness, not her strength • God calls this period a time of trespass (39:23); the nation will not come to know God until after Gog is destroyed (v22: “from that day forward”) • Not only is Israel caught off guard, so are her allies • All events are under Divine control: “I will turn thee back… bring thee forth…put hooks into thy jaws” (Is 37:29; Ezek 29:4) • Gog retains his freewill: hates the Jews; covets their wealth; thinks nothing of wiping out God’s people

  18. Ezekiel’s prophesied outcome: Gog defeated – Israel saved and God exalted • A great shaking occurs (v19-20) – elsewhere described as an earthquake • God intervenes to save Israel • God is sanctified (v16), magnified (v23), and glorified (39:13) by Israel and the gentile nations; so that it will lead to their salvation

  19. A simple framework to remember – The end of Gog • Gogassembles a massive army • Obliterationof Israel is Gog’s objective • Godcontrols Gog, to achieve His Purpose • Sufferingby Israel will be extensive • Earthquake/shaking occurs • New forceappears, to save Israel • Destructionof Gog brings glory to God

  23. Gog’s End – A Repeated Theme

  24. Gog’s End – A Repeated Theme

  25. Gog’s End – A Repeated Theme A key to understanding latter day prophecy: Recognize that multiple prophecies are given to describe the same event; using multiple symbols to describe the same power (Israel’s enemy) They symbols all share a common goal: the exploitation and destruction of Israel

  26. What to watch for from Ezek 38 • An alliance between Russia and her allies: Iran, Libya, Ethiopia/Sudan, Europe, Armenia/Turkey • A deepening alliance between Israel and Tarshish, and Israel with Sheba/Dedan • Israel to become a wealthy nation • Peace to come to Israel and the bars, walls, gates to come down

  27. The past 13 years has seen a new Russia emerge

  28. 1999 – Russia in the depths of despair • Financially broke • Couldn’t feed her people • Inept military • International humiliation

  29. In Putin, God is showing us what the latter day Gogian autocrat will look like Stratfor – 08 May 12: During his first term, Putin launched a comprehensive series of reforms that recentralized power over the Russian regions, cracked down on militancy in the Caucasus…and centralized the economy and political system. Putin implemented an autocratic regime and used the military and Russia's security apparatus… following the example of previous leaders, from the czars to the Soviet rulers. Putin's maneuvers were the natural evolution of how a successful leader rules Russia.

  30. In Putin, God is showing us what the latter day Gogian autocrat will look like • 13 years among world rulers, 12 more may remain; he may not need to be replaced by God before Christ returns • Political reforms designed to strengthen his hold on power • Designs and implements confederacies of nations, for which he is the head/rosh (i.e. Eurasian Union) • Germany no longer an enemy, now a close ally • Embraces the Church, states it should play a greater role in Russian life, has invested millionss to rebuild churches His ruthless, autocratic, tenacious, dominating character aligns closely with the description of Gog
