  1. PRESENTATION ON FIRE AND GAS SYSTEMBy Satish Makwana - Instrument DepartmentDate : 04/05/2012

  2. Why F&G System is required ? Big fire in IOC depot near Jaipur PROPERTY - Loss 350 + Cr. Deaths 12 - Loss ?.

  3. F&G System at Mangala F&G - WELLPAD F&G - MPT FIELD F&G BUILDING F&G FIELD F&G BUILDING F&G Fire Station Train # 2 All Cellar pits in Wellpad #1 TO 18 Wellpad #1 TO 18 CCB/Ch.Lab/SS 5 Train # 3 SS 1A Train # 4 SS 1B GPA SS 2 VRU SS 3 ExportOil SS 4A Diesel Tank/Flare SS 4B Warehouse

  4. When Alarm comes what we have to do first? Identify Field or Building F&G Alarm? At Control Room At Fire Station Contact Fire Station for Building F&G Check Field F&G Station Overview Check Building Fire Monitoring Stations Check Field F&G Station Overview Identify the Area having Alarm Silence the Alarm Inspect the area find the abnormality Do suitable action for rectification Normalize the system by reset

  5. Field F&G Alarms • Any of the Flame detectors, Point gas detectors, Open path detectors or Deluge valves operated will generate alarm. • Any manual call points if Glass is broken will generate alarm. • Any alarm generated will be highlighted on the operator screen and the corresponding zone will become red.

  6. Field F&G Trips • Two no. of alarm generated in one Zone will be considered as a confirmed fire or gas presence in the zone and will result an alarm and process shutdown (PSD-2) for the particular zone. • Confirmed fire or gas alarm in two Zones will result in ESD1 and PAGA (Public address and general alarm system). • All the process and power except UPS power will trip.

  7. Is Our Building F&G System Reliable?

  8. Is Our Build F&G System Reliable?

  9. Is Our Field F&G System Reliable?

  10. Workout Done by F&G Team after commissioning • Cleaned and Serviced the detectors to avoid Frequent False alarm coming due to dust (by construction activity) • NRV installed in Deluge circuit to avoid False operation of other Deluge valves due to high DP across them • HVAC interlocks taken in line • Inergen system made ready (still in Manual) • Field F&G interlocks lined up • The Well pad Building F&G Alarm connected to our F&G CCB • Fire station HMI Installed for monitoring Field F&G • ESD- 1 taken in line with all relevant more than 35 F & G Tags which were in bypassed condition earlier • We have already reduced the AMC cost 50% by taking the building F&G PM jobs .

  11. Field F&G Instrumentation IR3 Flame Detector - 48 Open Path Gas Detector OR Line of Sight Gas Detector -12 Point Gas Detector – 6 Deluge Valve – 23 Manual Call Point – 107

  12. Location of Field F & G Instruments • Train-2 8 FD , 3 Open path Gas Detector • Train-3 8 FD , 3 Open path Gas Detector • Train-4 14 FD , 3 Open path Gas Detector • VRU 6 FD , 6 Point Gas Detector • Export oil tank 4 FD • Diesel tank / Flare area 6 FD • GPA area 2 FD , 3 Open path Gas Detector

  13. IR Flame Detector IR Flame Detector Make : Sharp eye Model no: 20/20SI The principle of flame detector is based on the detection of IR radiation from the flame and Flame detector will gives Analog output signal to the system. The system will generate an alarm based on the intensity of IR rays

  14. Open Path Gas Detector Open path Gas Detector OR Line of sight Gas Detector Make : Spectrex Inc. – SafEye Model : Source - OPS-FI3SE Model : Detector - OP-IF100SE The principle of open path gas detector is based on the absorption of radiation ( IR rays ) caused by the presence of Gases in the medium and the losses of the transmitted IR spectrum is sensed by the Detector. Detector Source

  15. Point Gas detector • Point Gas detector • Make : Crocown • Model : Nimbus Nimbus is a fixed point infrared gas detector for the detection of common hydrocarbon gases in the range 0-100% LEL and provides a 4-20 mA signal proportional to the Gas concentration.

  16. Deluge Valve • Deluge valve • Make : Darling Muesco

  17. LINE DIGRAM FOR DELUGE SYSTEM SOV Manual Drain Needle Valve PSL NRV QB Loop PSH Equipment to be protected Fire water I/L line Deluge valve

  18. WORKING PRINCIPLE and OPERATION • Deluge valves are held shut with pressurized water placed in the valve’s priming chamber. Release of water pressure by any of the below mentioned ways from priming chamber will operate deluge valve • If the Detection line pressure decreases due to QB rupture • Manual Operation from Field • Manual Command from DCS • Auto Operation Due to Confirmed Fire or Gas Alarm

  19. Manual Call Point • Manual Call Point • Make : MEDC

  20. Building F&G Instrumentation • Conventional type smoke/Heat Detectors • Smoke detectors -addressable • Open Path Beam smoke Detectors -addressable

  21. Smoke and Heat detectors • Smoke detectors • Make : TYCO • Model no.- 4098-9714

  22. Conventional type smoke/Heat detectors Make : tycomodel no : mr601tex conventional type smoke/heat detector

  23. Cairn India – 2007 Beam Detector • Beam Detector • Make : TYCO • Model no : simplex fire ray 50 ru

  24. DGFAP (Data Gathering Fire Alarm panel) Make : Simplex Building Smoke / Heat Detector are connect in DGFAP All Building DGFAP are connect in network loop

  25. DGFAP (Data Gathering Fire Alarm panel) DGFAP Alarms Trouble Alarm Fire alarm All Building DGFAP Connect in ID Net Loop as below Fire station – CCB – SS1A – SS1B – SS2 – SS3 – SS4A – SS4B- SS5 – Ware house-Fire station

  26. Our Future Focus • One Building F&G Monitoring Station to be installed in CCR • All Wellpad building F&G system to be hooked up with our MPT Fire Station through FO and finally to ID net • Fire Station , Warehouse , Security Building , Wellpads Graphics to be incorporated. • Fire Station and Security building and Wellpads to be configured for alarm History • Train # 2 , Train # 3 Beacon alarm incorporation • Boiler and STG Area Fire and Gas system Installation and Commissioning

  27. ANY QUESTION????
