  1. Avoiding the Reign of Terror By: Santiago Vásquez.

  2. In order to avoid the Reign of Terror which almost consumed all of France we need to solve the: • A). Economic Problems. • B). Political Problems. • C). Social Problems. In order to do this, we need to recognize we have a problem, count on all the necessary things we need to solve it, and work together to help solve the problem.

  3. Economic Problems • These are the economic problems our country (France), is facing at the moment. We can work together to solve the following economic problems: A). High taxes for the bourgeoisie. (All taxes are paid by the members of this group.) B). Low wages for the bourgeoisie. C). Bad harvests in 1,787 and 1,788. D). Food shortages. E). Rising prices for food. F). Dependence on loans. G). The Cost of Versailles and the Royal household.

  4. Economic Problems (Solutions) We can solve our economic problems by doing the following: A).Reducing taxes in a way in which the clergy pays 40% of the taxes, the nobles 40%, and the bourgeoisie 20%. B).Increase bourgeoisie’s wages. C). Adam Smith can help us with this problem. He can apply his famous work “The Wealth of Nations” in our system.

  5. Political Problems • These are the political problems our country is facing. If we don’t solve them immediately our country might go into civil war. (Anarchy). These are the problems we need to solve: A). Louis XVI’s lack of attention to the third state. B). Nobles struggle with the monarchy which seriously weakened it. C). Conflict with parliaments and ruling classes. D). The weakening of absolutism.

  6. Political Problems (Solutions) We can solve our political problems by doing the following: A). Dividing the votes this way. Clergy: 1 vote – Nobles: 1 vote – Bourgeoisie: 1 vote. B). Make the monarch manage the executive power. C). Montesquieu can help us with this problem through the separation of powers. (Legislative, executive, and judicial.)

  7. Social Problems -These are the social problems our country is facing. We need to solve them before our country goes in chaos. A). Unfairness within the bourgeoisie. B). Unhappiness of the bourgeoisie of having to pay taxes and not being able to win a vote since the clergy and the nobles unite to get what they want. C). Bourgeoisie people claiming for their unemployment and the lack of land.

  8. Social Problems (Solutions) We can solve our social problems by doing the following: A).The lower class will be heard directly from the monarch to prevent the clergy and nobles deciding for them. B).Rousseau can help us with this problem through his social contract in which society agrees to be governed by its general will. C). Giving some noble’s privileges to middle class members to end with their unhappiness.

  9. We may avoid the Reign of terror if we solve these economic, political, and social problems our society is facing to prevent a future civil war and the lost of such a great society, which can be the perfect model of building other societies that are based in the principles of liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression.
