  2. About Last Night

  3. Ministry Matters and Good News • Where we’ve been • Where we are going • Last week: • Being Good News With Our Lives • Speaking Good News With Our Lips • Preaching Good News With Our Mission and Message

  4. Spreading Good News • Introducing people to the real Jesus • Sharing what you’ve experienced • Teaching people the truth of the word

  5. 1. Introducing people to the real Jesus John 1:35-42 – 35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. 36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!” 37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. 38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”They said, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?”39 “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.”

  6. So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour. 40 Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. 41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). 42 And he brought him to Jesus. Col. 1:28 – We proclaim him, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ.

  7. Acts 4:10-12 – It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 He is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’ 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

  8. 2 Cor. 11:3-4 – 3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. Col. 2:8 – 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ.

  9. How did someone lead you to the Jesus, or at least the real Jesus?

  10. 2. Sharing what you’ve experienced John 4 – 4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour…

  11. 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.” 16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”

  12. 17 “I have no husband,” she replied. Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.” 19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet… 28 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 They came out of the town and made their way toward him.

  13. How did/has someone else sharing their experience impacted you to come to Christ?

  14. 3. Teaching people the truth of the word Mark 16:20 – The disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. Acts 8:4 – Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. 2 Tim. 4:2 – Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

  15. Who taught you the word, and what was its impact on you?

  16. Conclusion • Introducing people to the real Jesus • Sharing what you’ve experienced • Teaching people the truth of the word
