Why Use Foldables? • Foldables provide an engaging hands-on approach to learning. • Foldables serve as fun alternatives to paper and pencil tests. • Foldables improve note-taking skills and encourage note-taking, which helps students organize and therefore retain information. • 70% of input to the human brain is visual. • http://www.csun.edu/~krowlands/Content/Academic_Resources/Foldables/Basic%20Foldables.pdf

  4. Supplies • Paper in assorted colors • Staplers • Glue Sticks • Scissors

Overview • Today, you will be creating and taking home samples of 7 different foldables. • You will be shown examples and a demonstration for creating each one. • Be prepared to brainstorm and discuss ways to use each foldable in your future classroom. • We will work quickly to ensure that we get to each of the activities we have planned!

Flip Books • Flip books are great for organizing large amounts of information. • You will need four sheets of paper and a stapler for this foldable. • Look at the examples provided, and watch as I show you how to assemble your flip book. • You will use your flip book to record the ideas you have about each type of foldable throughout today’s session.

  7. Flip Books • Once you have assembled your flipbook, you will notice that you have 8 pages. • The first page is a title page. Be creative! • The next seven pages should be titled: • Pop-Ups • Matchbooks • Pyramids • Flaps • No Nonsense Books • Shutters • Flip-Books

  8. Flip Books • Use the next minute or two to brainstorm with those around you. Think of as many different ways as possible to use flip books in your future classroom. Record your ideas on the appropriate page of your own flip book, and be prepared to share at least one idea.

  9. Flaps • You will need one sheet of paper, and a pair of scissors for this foldable. • Look at the examples provided, and watch as I show you how to assemble your flap foldable.

  10. Flaps • Use the next minute or two to brainstorm with those around you. Think of as many different ways as possible to use flap foldables in your future classroom. Record your ideas on the appropriate page of your flip book, and be prepared to share at least one idea.

  11. Shutters • You will need one sheet of paper, and a pair of scissors for this foldable. • Look at the examples provided, and watch as I show you how to assemble your shutter foldable.
