DWAF Commitments to LGSA • Mainstreaming hands-on support to Local Government - Implementation of the Sector Support Strategy - Development of a National and Provincial Water Sector Plans - Development of Municipal Support Plans - Quarterly reporting on support provided to local government - Design innovative mechanisms to meet national targets - Deployment of expertise to support service delivery - Fast-tracking of the Bucket Eradication Programme - Provide the necessary support for the provision of FBW - Support to improve the quality of WSDPs and their alignment to the IDP and PGDSs • Addressing the structure and governance arrangements of the State in order to better strengthen, support and monitor Local Government - Reviewing the structure of the Regional Offices - One Stop Shop concept • Refining, strengthening and giving greater attention to the enforcement measures of the policy, regulations and fiscal environment for local Government - Strengthening DWAF’s role as a regulator - Continuing with the WSA Checklist process to gauge the level of legislative compliance

Municipal Support Plans per Region • MPU :Bushbuckridge Local Municipality being used as a pilot for the development of a detailed support plan • FS : Provincial level plan under implementation • NW : Provincial level plan being developed • EC : Using WSA Capacity building BPs as basis, converting to WS [WSA&WSP] support plans, developing PSSIP focussed on LG support • WC : Developing PSSIP focussed on LG support • LP : Consolidation of WSA Capacity building BPs and PC Action plans into a provincial level plan underway • NC : Draft plan developed and currently being reviewed • GP : Draft provincial level plan developed • KZN : Provincial water sector plan will have a support component. Possibilities of developing WSA- level Municipal Support Plans being investigated

Way Forward Focus Areas: • Implementation of the Sector Support Strategy • Finalisation of the National Water Sector Plan, National 5 YR Local Government Support Plan, Provincial Water Sector Plans & Municipal Support Plans • Increased ownership of these plans by all sector partners • Monitoring and reporting on implementation
