  2. Pre – Easter preparationsstart 40 daysbefore Easter (Sundays are notcounted). Thedayiscalled – ASH DAY. Peoplego to thechurch. Thepriestmakescross on theirforeheadwithash. 40 – dayLentstarts.

  3. 28th, March 2013: MaundyThursdayor Holy Thursday– in Slovakia calledGreenThursday. It commemorates LastSupperof JesusChristwith the Apostoles.There´s a tradition in Slovakia thatpeopleeatsomethinggreen – e.g. spinach.

  4. 29th, March 2013: Good Friday wecommemoratethe crucifixionofJesusChristand his death.The dayiscalledBlackFriday, GreatFriday. It´ssaidthatChristsufferedfromoursins. Peoplehavestrictfasting – theymustn´teat meat. Theyusuallyeatfish.

  5. 30st, March2013: Easter Saturdayor BrightSaturday.It´sthetimewhenJesusChristrested in hisgrave. ForpeopleLentends and womenpreparemealsfornextdays. Theypreparesmoked ham, sausages, home – madecheese, boiledeggs. Theyboil and gratebeetrootwithhorse – radish and whippedcream. Theymakecakes, too.

  6. 31st, March2013: Easter Sunday.It´scommemoratedReserrectionofJesusChriston the third day after his crucifixion. Whenwomencame to hisgrave, theyfounditempty. Theycamebackcrying to thetown and menwhippedandwateredthem. Nowadaypeopleeatallpreparedmeals.

  7. 1st, April2013: Easter Monday.In Slovakia thereis a lotoffun on Monday – butmostlyforboys. Theygofromhouse to house and theywatergirls (iftheyfindthem) and whipthemwithplaitedwillowcane. Youngerboyssaysometraditionalrhyme.

  8. 1st, April2013: Easter Monday.According to thetraditionthatallgirlspouredwithbucketsofwaterwillbebeautiful and healthy. In viceversagirls tie colourfulribbon on thecane and theyoffersomecake, chocolateegg and paintedegg.

  9. Easter in ourregion – there are verypopular to blowouteggs and thenpaintanddyethem. In thenearestvillageswomenscrapdyedeggswithneedle. Theyalsowriterhymes on them. T There are otherpossibities to decorateeggs.
