  4. Bursting Day • In Iceland this day is called Sprengidagur. • In other countries it is known as Fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday. • On this day many people eat salted meat and peas.

  5. Mardi Gras (=bursting day) • In Belgium it‘s called vette dinsdag/mardi gras • We do a lot of parades, the most famous one is that of Aalst Gilles de Binche

  6. ASH DAY / ÖSKUDAGUR • Unique custom for children. • Small bags of ashes • Prank: pin bags on peoples clothing • Great day for children: • Singing, parading and begging for treats. • Icelandic Halloween

  7. Ash day in Belgium • Religious tradition • Receive blessing • Cross on forehead • ‚Out of dust you are born and to dust you will return‘

  8. Whitsunday-Whitmonday/Hvítasunnudagur-annar í hvítasunnu • On white Sunday some people go to church, most do nothing but eat good food • White Monday is a holiday and we do the samethings • There are confirmations on this two day and easter

  9. Good Friday/Föstudagurinn langi • On Good Friday people eat good food and enjoy a short week. • Vantrú or disbelief holds it annually bingo to protest that good Friday is a holiday but its illegal • Younger people go out drinking when the clock strikes 12

  10. Easter/Páskar • Easter eggs • Also grown-ups • People go to church • Good food is eaten and people kick back
