  1. Neuroblend in Iceland? Dóróthea Bergs, Msc, CNS Vice-president of IANN Marianne Klinke, RN, President of IANN

  2. Nursing in Iceland • The Icelandic Nurses' Association has approximately 3300 members of which 2500 are active • Membership is open to nurses with full nursing qualification • In the IANN we have about 60 members • Overall this nurses have had their training in the field – they are competent • but usually, they have not taken any special decree

  3. Ethical Standards for Nurses in Iceland - an example • The nurse shall pass on professional knowledge and experience to nursing students and other colleagues. • The nurse shall maintain his/her knowledge and skills and is legally and professionally responsible in the execution of his/her employment. • The nurse shall concern himself/herself with the development of knowledge regarding nursing and build his/her job upon research results for the benefit of the patient.

  4. In what way is the Neuroblend project helpful for us? • Building bridges between nurses in different domains of neuro-nursing • Building bridges between clinical neuro-nursing and the Faculty of Nursing- “the bridge between theory and practice” • What is it we want to know? • What is it we need to know? • How can we build up a continuous education program in neuroscience nursing?

  5. The NeuroBlend project is a very useful forum to get important information for nurses and teachers. It is already working in building “the famous bridge between theory and practice” – by using problem based learning and examples and videos from real situations.

  6. Neuroblend and educational issues • The board of the IANN find the EFP and the ECP extremely useful as a background for describing and identifying the working field of Neuroscience nursing • The NeuroBlend is a fine beginning in spreading an understanding of the complexity of nursing patients with neurological deficits • and to define neuroscience nursing as an important specialty withinnursing

  7. Editorial board • The editorial board has been established by the IANN • their task is to write articles and information letters • have contact with the media (television and magazines) in order to enhance the public focus on Neuroscience Nursing and keep the public informed • We hope that this will help us in“spreading the word of neuroscience nursing”-the first step in implementation • The Neuroblend will be helpful in forming the path

  8. Goals • This year / nest year we hope to begin the translation of some of the NeuroBlend material into Icelandic • especially the EFP and the ECP • The NeuroBlend project is a very useful forum for finding important information for nurses and teachers in that field – focus groups

  9. Goals cont.... • As a long term goal we hope that the co-operation between the IANN and the NeuroBlend project will be a platform for establishing neuroscience nursing specialists within all teaching environments (universities and hospitals) in Iceland. • Our strategy plan for the next months • To work towards the recognition of Neuroscience nursing as a specialized nursing field

  10. The Future In the IANN we hope to be able to participate in keeping NeuroBlend an active forum for NeuroScience nursing when the “set of” of the NeuroBlend ends this year
