  2. NYAPT Mission NYAPT is dedicated to the support, development and representation of the professionals who are responsible for the safe transportation of our school children. Our Future is Riding with Us!

NYAPT History • The New York Association for Pupil Transportation • Began in 1958 as an SED Workshop for School Transportation Supervisors • Became an association in 1974 and a not-for-profit in 1976 – NYAPT • 1992 established Executive Director for the organization • 2004 opened Albany office Our Future is Riding with Us!

  4. NYAPT Members • School transportation professionals from all across the state: • Active • Associate • Retired • Industry Our Future is Riding with Us!

  5. NYAPT Works • In 2003, signed the nation's first partnership with federal EPA • Advocated successfully for $400,000 school bus driver training program. • Obtained funding to install digital license plate readers on school buses • Obtained funding to create educational materials for drivers and mechanics about emissions reduction and anti-idling efforts. Our Future is Riding with Us!

NYAPT Works continued • Created a professional certification program for school transportation managers in New York State. • Created a college-level Certificate program for school transportation management. • Developed a new 8-hour School Transportation Law course with the NYS School Boards Association. • Introduced a school transportation Dispatcher course developed by PTSI.

  7. NYAPT Communicates • Communicates cutting-edge news, information, legislation and advances within transportation industry, state- and country-wide • Outreach to parents, educators and administrators to become partners in transportation safety goals Our Future is Riding with Us!

NYAPT Represents • NYS school bus industry – one of the most regulated in the country • NYAPT represents its members at the table with the agencies – our important partners • Provides focus on pupil safety • Offers well-grounded reality to practical applications of proposed laws and regulations • Connects detailed issues to the big picture of student safety on school buses Our Future is Riding with Us!
