  1. Mzingwane Catchment Council Benefits from CPWF PN17. 15 – 19 JULY 2009 By P. Ncube

  2. Initial Intentions • Work with social groups to address the two tier system of reporting (refer to organogram). • To bridge the gap between the grassroots water user, e.g. irrigation schemes, and the sub-catchment council. • To form water user associations which will interact with the sub-catchment council (check organogram)

  3. Intentions… • Equipping water user groups monitoring skills. • Catchment activities that impact on water resources. • Lobby for the specific interests of their group through proper and effective representation. • Coordination of activities of water point committees

  4. Proposed Organogram by MCC.

  5. Benefits.

  6. Institutions. • Facilitating the establishment of effective water institutions (UZ CASS). • Development of logos. • Development of an institutional model (UZ Soil Sc & Ag Eng and CASS). • Facilitation of interactive workshops with stakeholders. • Awareness raising through workshops and interviews.

  7. Institutions… • Development of outline plan • Establishment of weak points in our operations (PhD Researches).

  8. Water Resources Research. • Water resource planning and allocation tool development through the development of a spreadsheet based water resources model will go a long way in improving efficiency of our operations. • Construction of a new gauging weir on the Tshazi river in Insiza district improves the quality of our hydrological data.

  9. Water Resources Research… • The Limpopo hydrochemistry baseline report enlightened us on how far our water resources are polluted, hence the need for us to devise mitigatory measures.

  10. Farmer Field Based Action Research. • We still need appropriate methods developed for our farming community to use in this dry region of ours.

  11. Conclusion • Acknowledge the good works done by everyone who was involved in the project directly or indirectly. • We hope any outstanding projects and activities will be completed. • We are happy and proud to having been associated with the Challenge Programme PN17 and we wish for more such programmes.

  12. Thank You.
