  3. Math Requirements 4 Credits Required Seniors must take a math class even if they have already earned 4 credits. This math sequence is provided for incoming 9th and 10th grade students.** • 9th - Algebra I 1 Credit Honors Algebra I • 10th Algebra II 1 Credit • Honors Algebra II • 11th Geometry 1 Credit • Honors Geometry • 12th Upper level Math: 1 Credit • Bridge Math • Accelerated Pre Calculus (for Seniors) • Honors Pre Calculus • Motlow Dual Enrollment Pre Calculus (MATH1710/1720) • AP Statistics • AP Calculus (prerequisite Pre Calculus credit) • Math placement is determined by a combination of factors, including test scores, teacher recommendations and grades. RECOMMENDATION: Students enrolled in Honors Alg. I should double up the following school year in Alg II/Geometry ** Current 10th grade students in Geometry will go on to Algebra II and Current 11th grade students in Algebra II will go on to Upper level Math.

Science Requirements 3 Credits Required Typical science sequence through high school 9th- Science elective/lab science1 Credit • Physical World Concepts (typically taken in 9th) • Honors Physical World Concepts • Agriscience (Cannot be used to meet BOTH science AND POS requirements) • Honors Agriscience “ “ • Environmental Science • AP Environmental Science (Not available to 9th grade students) 10th- Biology OR1 Credit • Accelerated Biology • Honors Biology 11th - Chemistry or Physics OR1 Credit • Honors Chemistry • Honors Physics AP Environmental Science , AP Biology II and AP Chemistry II can be taken and applied toward the AP or Math/Science Programs of Study, Science elective credit. Anatomy and Physiology or Honors Anatomy and Physiology is also offered and meets the Science elective credit, or taken as a 4th Science class, it may be used as one of the credits in the HSE or Math/Science POS. Like math, it is strongly recommended that students take a science course each year of high school especially for STEM enthusiasts.

SOCIAL STUDIES REQUIREMENTS 3 Credits World Geography, World History, or AP Human Geography 1 Credit • Honors World History United States History 1 Credit • AP U.S. History (Recommended as a Junior year class) • Motlow Dual Enrollment US History Economics.5 Credit • Honors Economics • Business Economics • Honors Business Economics • Marketing Education I (1 credit) U.S. Government .5 Credit • Honors U.S. Government • American Business and Legal Systems (ABLS) • Honors ABLS • JROTC I, II, III Note: AP European History and AP World History are available for elective credits or to use toward an AP Program of Study

Foreign Language and Fine Arts Requirements • Fine Arts 1 Credit Visual Arts, General Music, AP Music Theory Chorus, Band, Band Aux., Show Choir, Women’s Chorale, Theater Arts • Foreign Language 2 Credits Must have 2 years of the SAME foreign language French, Spanish (both are available at honors level)

  7. Advanced Placement (AP) Information • CHS offers 14 Advanced Placement courses that can lead to college credit. AP Environmental Science – Ms. Benton AP Chemistry II- Mr. Smith AP Computer Science – Mrs. Ray AP Biology II – Mrs. Haley AP Psychology – Mrs. Smith AP US History – Mrs. Koger AP European History – Mrs. Koger AP World History – Mrs. Koger AP Human Geography - Mr. Barlow AP Music Theory – Mr. Rogers AP English III – Mrs. Winton AP English IV – Mrs. Bond AP Calculus – Mrs. Pedigo AP Statistics – Mrs. McIntosh • Students are strongly encouraged to speak with AP teachers prior to signing up for these courses.

  8. Dual Enrollment Courses-through Motlow • U.S. History • English III • English IV • Pre Calculus Students must have 19 ACT Composite or 3.0 GPA to be eligible for the Dual Enrollment Grant. The US History, English III and IV all require an 18 English score and 19 Reading sub score to enroll in these courses through Motlow. Pre Calculus requires a 19 Math score on the ACT

  9. HPER/ROTC REQUIREMENT1.5 Total Credits (.5 Health, .5 PE or PT, .5 Physical Activity) (May include any one of the following semester courses: PE I,II,PT, Band, Band Aux.) Replacement of Wellness & Physical Activity Credits using JROTC JROTC I and II replaces 1 credit (Health .5 & PE/PT .5) JROTC III replaces the additional .5 Physical Activity Credit

  10. Personal Finance -.5 credit • All students MUST take .5 credit of Personal Finance prior to graduating from high school JROTC I, II, III – Substitutes for the Personal Finance requirement

  11. Computer Instruction Requirement -1 credit • All students must take a full year of Computer Applications prior to graduating from high school. • Students with credit for Document Formatting, Keyboarding, and/or CMS do not need to take Computer Applications, but are welcome to take it

  12. Program of Study Requirement • All students MUST take 3 credits within the same program area in order to graduate. • Example: • If your program of study is Cosmetology, you must follow this course plan: • 10th grade – Principles of Cosmetology • 11th grade – Design Principles of Cosmetology • 12th grade – Chemistry of Cosmetology • You will need to commit to a program of study during your 10th grade year, in order to be sure you have time to complete the 3 year requirement.

  13. PROGRAMS OF STUDY • Advanced Placement (AP) – Three AP courses that are notused to meet graduation requirements. • Agriculture • Business Technology • Family and Consumer Science • Fine Arts • Health Science • Health, Physical Education, & Recreation • Humanities • Marketing • Math & Science • Trade and Industry • Drafting, Welding, Manufacturing, Collision Repair, Automotive Technology, Cosmetology, and Criminal Justice

  14. CO-OP Information • Seniors may be able to leave after 5th period to go to work through the co-op program if they meet the following requirements: • Have 2.5 or higher GPA • At least 16 years of age and a Senior • Have a valid Drivers License • Have use of a vehicle with insurance • Have medical insurance coverage • Have a job (not through family member) • Enrolled in a CTE course related to job

  15. FACULTY /OFFICE AID Juniors and Seniors are able to be an office or faculty aid if they have room in their schedule and meet the following requirements: • CUMULATIVE GPA-3.0 OR HIGHER • ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS –NO MORE THAN 5 EXCUSED ABSENCES AND NO MORE THAN 5 EXCUSED TARDIES/CHECKOUTS THE PREVIOUS SEMESTER. • SATISFACTORY CONDUCT WITH NO ISD, OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION OR ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL DURING THE PREVIOUS OR CURRENT SEMESTER. • MUST RETURN FORM AT REGISTRATION WITH TEACHER’S SIGNATURE IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS COURSE REQUEST. • 9th Grade Office • Main Office • Student Counseling Center • Special Services Office • Library • Peer Tutoring • Faculty Aid

Registration Procedures • Classroom visits (February 20-22) • Go over graduation requirements • Evaluate transcripts • Pass out Registration materials • Individual Meetings with Counselor (February 27 – March 12 ) • Return Registration materials with parent signature by Tuesday, February 26thto English Teacher. • Go over transcript evaluation with counselor • Verify courses needed/select • Student’s will schedule courses with counselors following spring break.
