  2. Topic • The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 declared that all runaway slaves be brought back to their masters, any official who did not arrest an alleged runaway slave was liable to a fine of $1,000.

  3. Point of View • This law was a response to the weakening of the original fugitive slave act, and was an attempt by slave owners to strengthen their rights to own slaves.

  4. Inferences/ Outside information • Abolitionists nicknamed it the "Bloodhound Law" for the dogs that were used to track down runaway slaves.
