Graduation Requirements English 40 credits Fine Arts/World Language 10 credits Health 5 credits Math (Algebra 1 and higher) 20 credits Physical Education 20 credits REMINDER: Science:You must pass Biological 10 creditsthe PFT before Physical 10 creditscoming out of PE Social Studies: World History 10 credits U.S. History 10 credits Amer. Government 5 credits Economics 5 credits College Prep/Career Tech Ed. 10 credits Elective 75 credits TOTAL 230 credits

CAHSEE (California High School Exit Exam) • ALL STUDENTS must pass the CAHSEE to graduate from high school in the state of California • Next CAHSEE for 11th graders is May 13th and 14th • Students who have not passed the CAHSEE will be required to enroll in CAHSEE prep classes for the failed section(s) until they successfully complete the exam. CAHSEE prep classes are worth 5 elective credits per semester.

Opportunities to Make Up Missing Credits/Requirements Summer School TBD Fill out WISH LIST form with your counselor during course selection in February/March Palomar Community College – MUST see Counselor before enrolling - Courses are FREE to high school students: 1 unit = 1.6 credits 1.5 units = 2.5 credits 3 UNITS = 5 CREDITS 4 units = 6.6 credits NOTE: It is the student’s responsibility to send any official transcripts/records to the OGHS registrar to apply any of the above courses toward graduation requirements.

Laboratory Science – 2 years required, 3 recommended • E. Language other than English – 2 years of the same language required, 3 recommended • F. Visual and Performing Arts –1 year • G. College Preparatory Electives – 1 year UC-approved course list for OGHS is available online at: www.ucop.edu/doorways/list

College Admission Tests UC and CSU • SAT Reasoning *Photo Upload Requirement or • ACT with Writing *Photo Upload Requirement SAT Subject Exams are NO longer required for admission UNLESS you would like to take the exam and submit your scores for consideration as part of your application, just as you do now with AP scores OR UNLESS its required for your specific major, i.e. engineering, etc.

  9. Fee Waivers Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch may be eligible to receive: SAT and ACT fee waivers FREE instead of $52.50 (ACT)/$51 (SAT)! AP Testing fee waivers $5 instead of $89- You save $84! College Application fee waivers 4 FREE CSU applications instead of $60 each- You save up to $240! AND 4 FREE UC applications instead of $70 each – You save up to $280! A TOTAL SAVINGS OF $520!!! * See Mrs. Landreth in the Counseling Office if you believe you are eligible!

  10. Are YOU ready for all the IMPORTANT 11th grade exams? • CST • EAP section on CST • Common Core – SBAC • Common Core Performance Task (ELA or Math TBD) • SAT • ACT • AP • CAHSEE (if you have not passed either sections of the CAHSEE already)

  11. IMPORTANT EXAMS • ELA CST exam + EAP required for all 11th grade students • Math CST exam + EAP only for 11th graders taking Alg. II or higher level math • Common Core (SBAC) required for all 11th grade students in ELA & Math plus Performance Taskin one subject area TBD • Testing begins April 2014 • THESE EXAMS ARE IMPORTANT!!! • Students with high scores on the EAP portion of the exam that plan to attend a Community College or a CSU, may be exempt from taking placement exams in Math and English. • This saves you $$$ and time!

  12. Things you can do to set yourself up for success • Arrive to school on-time • Pay attention to the instructions given in class by the proctor (person giving the exam) • Ask questions if you do not understand something • If you miss an exam – plan on retaking it

  14. The morning of your exams, make sure you eat a healthy breakfast

  15. It is normal to be nervous but try to relax … • Before you start the test -close your eyes -take 6 deep breathes -be positive/self-affirmation • If you start to feel nervous during the test -stop and take 3 more deep breathes

  16. When taking a test … Read all of the test directions carefully Pay close attention to the words that are -Bold -Underlined -Italicized

  17. Structure your time → If permitted, start with the section you find most difficult YOU are in control!!! If permitted, finish with the section you find easiest Time Management

  18. READ Everything Carefully!If it is a reading exam … • Read the instructions • Read the questions • Read the answers • Read the passage … Then answer the questions accordingly

  22. Identifying Correct Answers … • Read the question and instructions carefully • Read ALL the answer choices • Identify extreme language vs. wishy washy language • Use P.O.E. strategy • Use common sense, logic and factual information to make an educated guess
