This document covers essential data integration methods for SWIS, including downloading files in tab delimited, comma delimited, and XML formats. Currently, S-Dex is available for downloading data from all district schools, while SIF is still in development. Learn how districts can bridge S-Dex to their databases and successfully enter data using systems like Pentamation and eSchoolPLUS. The guide also touches on SIF, an industry initiative for educational interoperability, detailing certification requirements and the roles of various agents.

Data Integration Methods • Download file from SWIS • Tab Delimited • Comma Delimited • XML Data • S-Dex (available now) • SIF (not yet available)
S-Dex • SDex downloads SWIS data from all District schools • District builds a bridge from SDex to district database • Data entry into district database • Successful with Pentamation, eSchool PLUS • S-Dex manual on SWIS website
Data Integration Update • Missouri & Oregon Examples • SDex upload into Pentamation; now Eschool PLUS • More examples needed from other Data Information Systems
SIF (Schools Interoperability Framework) • Industry initiative enabling diverse applications to interact & share data easily • Initially started by Microsoft to create “a blueprint for educational software interoperability & data access” • SWIS is in the process of SIF certification
School Interoperability Framework (SIF) eSIS Agent Zone Integration Server Agent Agent SWIS SASI Agent Sunguard (Pentamation, EschoolPLUS)
School Interoperability Framework (SIF) Fall 2007 – SWIS will have SIF agent Requires District applications to have SIF agent and State ZIS Download and upload from district databases Anticipated to be used nationwide to link software applications
Requirements for SIF • Software must be SIF compliant(eSchoolPLUS, PowerSchool, eSIS, SASI,…..) • District must have access to Zone Integration Server (ZIS) • Some states have this (South Carolina) • Some are in process (Michigan, South Dakota, Montana…..)
