  3. The Harlotry of a People (Jer. 3)

  4. (Jeremiah 3:1) • "They say, 'If a man divorces his wife, And she goes from him And becomes another man's, May he return to her again?' Would not that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; Yet return to Me," says the LORD. (NKJV)

  5. The Harlotry of Israel… • (Jeremiah 3:6) The LORD said also to me in the days of Josiah the king: "Have you seen what backsliding Israel has done? She has gone up on every high mountain and under every green tree, and there played the harlot. (NKJV) • (Jeremiah 3:9) "So it came to pass, through her casual harlotry, that she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees. (NKJV)

  6. They Sinned…“as they were able” • (Jeremiah 3:5) Will He remain angry forever? Will He keep it to the end?' Behold, you have spoken and done evil things, As you were able." (NKJV)

  7. God Tried to Turn Them Back…Yet They Refused to be Ashamed • (Jeremiah 3:3) Therefore the showers have been withheld, And there has been no latter rain. You have had a harlot's forehead; You refuse to be ashamed. (NKJV)

  8. A Poor and Embarrassing Example Before Others • (Jeremiah 3:7) • "And I said, after she had done all these things, 'Return to Me.' But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it. (NKJV)

  9. The Weakening Of American Values • the majority of Americans surveyed held the opinion that the moral values in America are weaker than they were 20 years ago • 74% of that majority felt that the media is the second biggest influence on a person’s family after parents and families

  10. The Weakening Of American Values: Marriage & Divorce • 16% said that sex between consenting unmarried adults is never wrong • 49% said that it depends upon the situation • 45% believe divorce is permissible for any reason at any time

  11. The Weakening Of American Values: Sexuality • Only 67% believe premarital sex among high school kids is always wrong. • 49% believe homosexuality or lesbianism is wrong • 14% said homosexuality is right • 26% said it depends upon the situation whether or not it is right to be a homosexual

  12. The Weakening Of American Values: Sanctity of Life • 51% describe themselves as pro-choice • 8% of those surveyed felt that abortion is morally right • 53% support physician-assisted suicide

The Weakening Of American Values: God • 87% believe in a god of some sort • 52% said that they believe the Bible is God’s authoritative word • Only 36% said they believe that we should live according to God’s principles • 15% say they will live by their own principles even if they conflict with God’s principles • 45% prefer to combine God’s teachings with their own

  14. The Weakening Of American Values: Views About Government • 28% are willing to exclude all religious principles simply because they are religious in origin • 35% will exclude some religious principles simply because they are religious in origin

The Weakening Of American Values: Honesty • 51% believe that lying is wrong under every circumstance • 53% believe that it is wrong to break a promise under every circumstance • 46% believe it is permissible to break a promise in situations where it is “too difficult or inconvenient” • 57% say they would be honest if they were ever unfaithful to their spouse • 34% said they would deceive their spouse if they were unfaithful to them

The Welfare State of America – From Cradle to Grave • 4 million people receive welfare checks in 2009 • 37 million received food stamps in 2009 • 9.1 million received unemployment benefits • Over 60 million people receive some type of social security benefits receiving an average monthly benefit of $1,079.00. • 43 million people were enrolled in Medicare in 2006 • 53 million people were enrolled in Medicaid (date unknown)

  28. What the Lord Wanted of Israel Then, He Wants for America Today! • (Jeremiah 3:11-13) Then the LORD said to me, "Backsliding Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah. "Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: 'Return, backsliding Israel,' says the LORD; 'I will not cause My anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,' says the LORD; 'I will not remain angry forever. Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the LORD your God, And have scattered your charms To alien deities under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,' says the LORD. (NKJV)

  29. What the Lord Promised Israel if They Would Return to Him: • (Jeremiah 3:14) • "Return, O backsliding children," says the LORD; "for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion. (NKJV)

  30. Have You Listened to the Shepherds? • (Jeremiah 3:15) • "And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding. (NKJV)
