Biography • J.A. Komenský was a last bishop of Unity of Brethren. He was born probably in Uherský Brod or Nivnice. After the death of his parents he lived in Strážnice with his aunt. In 1608 he began studying in latin school in Přerov. In 1611 he went to college in Herborn.
Work of art • Jan Amos Komenský created a lot of files. He wrote mainly Czech, Latin and German. The main philosophical work is „De rerum humanarum emendatione consultatio catholica“ („General advice on things human remedy“). He led a diaries. He began writing two major works: Treasure of Czech language (big dictionary) and Theatre of the universe of things (encyclopedia). In 1613 he visited Amsterdam. In 1614 he became a rector of latin school.
Theology • As a theologian, Comenius was mystical, a believer in prophecies, dreams and revelations.He was also famous for his prophecies and the support he gave to visionaries.
Family • He was married three times. His first wife (Magdaléna Vizovská) died of the plague. In Brandýs nad Orlicí he met his second wife (Marie Dorota Cyrill). She later became seriously ill and then died. He married a third time with Jana Gajus. She was thirty years younger.
