Presentation Objectives: • Define Domestic Violence and Child to Parent Violence (CPV) • Identify the complex challenges of Child to Parent Violence within the context of traditional domestic violence or IPV treatment models. • Introduce BTC Family Program in action. • Summarize research implemented within the Seminole County PAY juvenile diversion program. 2

BTC in Action • BTC is highly individualized by culture, age, needs, mental health conditions, cultural issues, school calendar, risk factors, etc. • Peer leadership at BTC is at the core of our ability to individualize • Young adult/Peer leadership is uniquely beneficial • CPV is not just horrible behaviors or bad kids. It’s a real life issue and a “family secret” that is more common than we think. • BTC is talking about this “family secret”…with great results. 8

Initial Phase: Screaming Pre & Post Test Results32% Indicated that this behavior occurs daily.28% Indicated that this behavior occurs one a week.24% Indicated that this behavior occurs once a month. 40% Indicated that the behavior occurs once a month. 40% Indicated that the behavior is rarely occurring

  12. Initial Phase: Accused BP 32% Admitted to this practice at least once a month, while 24% admitted to this practice at least once per week 60% Reported that this practice is no longer occurring, while 40% indicated it is occurring rarely.

  13. Initial Phase: Ridiculing 20% reported rare occurrences while 44% indicated nearly every day occurrence and 20% once a month 60% Indicated rarely occurring, while 20% still reports once a month.

Second Phase: Screaming 18.2% reported screaming once per week while 27.3% reported at least once per month. 27.3% indicated that the behavior occurs rarely and 21.2% indicated the behavior never occurs. 36.4% reported screaming once per week while 24.2 reported at least once per month. 12.1% indicated that the behavior never occurs.

Second Phase: Accused BP There were no reports of daily events. 6.1% reported accusing the parent once per week, while 21.2% reported at least once per month. 21.2% indicated that the behavior occurs rarely while 51.5% indicated the behavior never occurs. 21.2% makes accusations of bad parenting daily, with 15.2% reports once per week with 21.2% reporting at least once per month. 27.3% indicated that the behavior never occurs.

Second Phase: Ridiculing 6.1% reported ridiculing the parent once per week while 24.2% reported at least once per month. 36.4% indicated that the behavior occurs rarely while 30.3% indicated the behavior never occurs. 39.4% reported ridiculing the parent once per week while 21.2% reported at least once per month. 15.2% indicated that the behavior never occurs.

  17. Second Phase: Parent’s responses for screaming incidents 9.8%% reported screaming daily and 12.2% once per week. While 34.1% reported at least once per month. 19.5% indicated that the behavior occurs rarely and 24.4% indicated the behavior never occurs. 31.1% reported screaming daily and 19% once per week. While 19% reported at least once per month. 21.4% indicated that the behavior rarely occurs.

Second Phase: Parent’s responses for ridiculing incidents 2.4% reported ridiculing daily the parent with 17.1% once per week while 24.4% reported at least once per month. 17.1% indicated that the behavior occurs rarely while 39% indicated the behavior never occurs. 14.3% reported ridiculing daily the parent with 23.8% once per week . 21.4% reported at least once per month. 28.6% indicated that the behavior never occurs.

  19. Second Phase: Parent’s responses for accusations of being called a bad parent. There were 7.3% reports of daily events. 14.6% reported once per week, while 14.6% reported at least once per month. 19.5% indicated that the behavior occurs rarely while 43.9% indicated the behavior never occurs. 28.6% received accusations of bad parenting daily, with 23.8% reports once per week. While 16.7% reporting at least once per month. 28.6% indicated that the behavior never occurs.

Who would have ever thought it’s possible to like a court program!”
