  1. Public Participatory GIS (PPGIS) and Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) April 16, 2013

  2. Definition of VGI: Private citizens creating and sharing geographic information, often without formal qualifications, intentionally or otherwise. This is a function that for centuries has been mainly reserved to official agencies. Volunteered Geographic Information operates at many levels – the following examples are arranged in terms of experience required, from high to low to none Goodchild MF. Citizens as sensors: the world of volunteered geography. GeoJournal 2007; 69: 211-221.

  3. Real-time reporting of soil bacteria data based at Imperial College, London. Aanensen DM et al. EpiCollect: Linking smartphones to web applications for epidemiology, ecology and community data collection. PLoS One 2009; 4:9.

  9. Comet Hyakutake Is it possible to build from these images a true sky survey? We expect the answer is “yes”

  10. Epidemic intelligence - Focuses on event detection, prior to official health care reporting, laboratory confirmation and eventual official notification - Ad hoc detection and interpretation of unstructured information available on the Internet
