  1. More Uses of Technology to Further Our Service Efforts • Brad D (TX) • Jeffry L (KS) • Kit E (MN)

  2. Implementing IT at the Local Level (Case Study: Dallas Area)

  3. Implementing IT at the Local Level Dallas Area: - No previous implementation efforts (people usually replied to the monthly minutes) - No online communication = no collaboration - No Collaboration = No continuity - Internal bulletin board existed (which nobody used)

  4. Implementing IT at the Local Level Selecting a platform – what to look for? - Anonymity - Easy to use and implement - Something stable - cost-effective (i.e. free) - Easy to migrate away from

  5. Platform Profile: Slack Pros: - Free, Flexible, useful collaboration tool - Includes Trello integration (cool!) - Mobile / Web / Desktop apps available Cons: - Some features have steep learning curves - Mainly for chat (would probably work better for smaller bodies or committees) - File Management not integrated

  6. Platform Profile: Slack

  7. Platform Profile: FaceBook Pros: - Can set up anon. groups - ubiquitous - Easy to follow Cons: - non-users tend to be antagonistic - File mgmt. again leaves much to be desired

  8. Platform Profile: Google Groups Pros: - Easy to add and manage members - Prefs to make it more accommodating - ListServ setup makes web access unnecessary - Free - Easy Setup, self-maintaining - Easy to use - Integration with Google docs for free document viewing / editing (for members w/o MS Office) - moderation ability

  9. Platform Profile: Google Groups Cons: - Web interface is dated, lacks easy archiving ability for old messages - No mobile app (although there is a mobile website with a limited feature set) *demo*

  10. Dallas Area Implementation All submissions (reports, new ideas, agendas, etc) come through Google Groups. Website Coordinator is point of accountability (not much upkeep involved) Membership open to all Dallas Area members New members to the local service body are added on the spot at the area meeting

  11. Suggestions Full commitment from the body is a must Anticipate objections, and know how to respond. Objections to IT implementation: “This is going to be too hard.” “I shouldn’t have to know how to use a computer to serve NA.” Be patient / willing to help
