In a meeting of the U.S. Department of State ITAC-T Advisory Committee on March 28, 2001, the necessity of forming a government-sponsored industry association for ENUM was discussed. The association would address major antitrust and liability considerations, as well as intergovernmental coordination. Its goals include supporting the collaborative arrangements required for implementing ENUM services, developing provisioning architectures, and ensuring minimal essential services through contractual agreements. The model for this association would draw from the frameworks of ARIN, NECA, and ECSA VeriSign-Telcordia.
