  2. Addiction is destroying the lives of so many people! Addiction affects more than just the addict. In reality, even if you do not know someone personally struggling with addiction, it will impact your life in some way or another. The children growing up in this world today are the same people who hold our future. They will be the ones running the government, providing healthcare, and taking care of us as elders when we are too old to care for ourselves. Are people like this, the ones who we want taking care of our country? This is just a small piece of the impact addiction has for us all!!

  3. Addiction Overview What is addiction? How does addiction affect more than just the addict? Is addiction more than just the illegal street drug? Have drug addiction related issues been on the rise? How do we fight against this epidemic?

  4. addiction The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity.

  5. Ways addiction affects more than just the addict Addiction causes abuse and child neglect. Addiction causes Developmental and mental health issues. Unstable environments. Next generation substance abusers. Family members are drained emotionally and financially.

  6. How can you help with addiction The first thing in getting addiction under control is to educate with fact no matter how hard it is to accept.

  7. Addiction is more than substance abuse with illegal street drugs Addiction to prescription drugs Alcohol addiction. Addiction can also a number of many different things other than substance abuse.

  8. Will addiction ever have an impact in your life? Yes, addiction reaches from the top of the political ladder down to your home life.

  9. Drug addiction and issues related to addiction are on the rise According to The NSDUH (National Survey on Drug Use and Health In 2013, 21 million Americans use prescription drugs nonmedically for the first time within the past year. That is 5,750 initiates a day. According to The National Drug Institute estimated in 2013, 24.6 million Americans 12 years and up(9.4% of the population) used illicit drugs in the past month. 1.3 million Americans (.5%) used hallucinogens. The number is up from 8.3% in 2002.

  10. How do we fight against this epidemic of addiction? First and foremost, we need to absolutely minimize the issue with the doctors prescribing pain meds so quickly. I understand there are people who truly need pain management, but I feel there could be much more done minimize it greatly. Doctors need to educate people on what the pain medications are suppose to do. Pain meds are not to completely eliminate pain and discomfort. They are to minimize it to a tolerable level. We as Americans need to plead with doctors and scientist on finding cures rather than masking them. We need medications without more side affects than symptoms. Educating the children at a young enough age to have an impact. Not just a drug awareness seminar at school, but real education. Educate them on all areas of addiction. Educate the adults with real education on addiction, such as statistics, what happens to your body and brain after long term use, etc.

  11. Visual Rhetoric • The original context of the photo is that addiction impacts more than just the addict. The photo also shows that addiction is more than just the illegal drugs such as alcohol and prescription medication. There are many components used in this photo concerning a Visual Rhetoric. • Ethos-The author showed a great use of ethos in appealing to the moral ethics of humanity. NO child should ever be in this situation. • Pathos-Pathos was expressed in drawing the audience in by the sadness of the child portrayed in this photo. • Logos-The logos or logic shown in this photo is that addiction is much more than the addiction to illegal drugs, but also with addiction to alcohol and prescription drugs. • Kairos-I feel the author of the photo showed a very good use of Kairos by placing the girl in the sad aftermath of addiction. If the author would have shown this young girl prior to this particular moment, you could have possible only seen the surface contentment she portrays to the outside world that she is okay. • Font size and style were represented throughout the presentation to keep it organized and to the point. • My color scheme chosen was very simple and plain to avoid distraction. • Pictures used were appropriate for the theme.

  12. Conclusion Addiction affects so many lives, and is destroying our country. It creeps into our homes and destroys our children's lives. It then, in return, ruins our countries future. This is more than just illegal street drugs. This reaches from household cleaners and medication to our physicians.
