  2. Mission Statement • Human Growth and Training Associates is an arrangement of professionals in the psychology industry who work independently of one another, but share the costs of owning a private practice. • Human Growth and Training Associates also contribute to the community through Employee Assistant Programs (EAP) for organizations such as NHRMC and GE. EAPs allow for the organization to pay Human Growth a discounted hourly rate in order for them to offer three free psychological visits to each of their employees.

  3. History • Human Growth and Training was opened in 1976 and continues to be the oldest private practice in Wilmington. • The practice is currently well outfitted: -Social Worker/Marriage Counselor -Three Psychologists including One Forensic Psychologist -Neurological Psychologist -Testing and Assessment Specialist -Psychiatrist -Three Office Assistants

  4. Practicum Duties • No clerical, desk work, or busy work • Observe therapy sessions • Partake in staff meetings twice a month • Attend court to observe forensic psychological testimony • Always ask questions! Ask questions about the therapeutic relationship between patient and therapist, why therapist took the approach that they did, et cetera

  8. What I Learned • The difference between a male doctoral level psychologist and a female master level psychologist • A psychologist’s job is mentally and physically exhausting! The pace is FAST! I learned the importance of avoiding burnout • Keep your emotional reactions at bay • The incredible flexibility and openness that is required from a psychologist during the course of a single day- each client has different needs and beliefs

  9. In Closing • I loved going to Human Growth and Training Associates! • This site was a wonderful place to apply everything that I have learned in my psychology classes-and SO much more! • I learned a lot about the “individual” from the clients- everyone has a story. • Trish and Howard were amazing supervisors. They both took a huge interest in my learning experience at Human Growth. They were always willing to answer any questions with extensive explanations.
