  1. The Physics of Micro-Granular Material

  2. “PZT” Micro-granular Vibration Table = epoxy = “PZT” Sleeve = Glass = Silver Paint

  3. Photos of the Micro-Granular Vibration Table

  4. Laura learns to solder…

  5. Matt plays with glue…

  6. Our materials…

  7. These materials were vibrated at a variety of frequencies. Video was taken using the Intel QX3 Digital Microscope. As you watch the videos, look carefully for patterns in motion between the different samples. Standby for the VIDEO…

  8. Results: Our experiments led us to the following conclusions: -particles exhibited motion at different frequencies and amplitudes based primarily on their mass, shape, and size -the surface of the vibration table exhibited motion similar to that of a drum head (high peaks in middle or towards the edge, based on amplitude or frequency)

  9. We would like to thank the entire CIRL staff for all of their help and support: Dr. Pat Dixon Gina Hickey Karl Hook Paula Crone Gayla Sanders Ann Spangler

  10. A SPECIAL thank you goes out to Dr. Jim Brooks. Throughout this internship, he’s introduced us to many avenues of research and helped us to make them applicable to our classrooms.
