  2. www.cherplan.eu/ General information The Region of Western Greece is one of the 13 regional administrations in Greece. Since 2011 it acts as a 2nd degree of local government. The capital city of Patras is the 3rd largest municipality in GR and embraces the 2nd biggest port in the country.

  7. www.cherplan.eu/ Urban Development in ROP-Western Greece Revitalization and sustainable economic and social urban development Objective • Strategic principles: • Polycentricity • Strengthening of networking between urban centers • Improvement and development of infrastructures • Limiting urban sprawl • Sustainable urban development (increase of green and public spaces, integrated urban infrastructure facilities, urban revitalization, pedestrian and bicycle networks, reduction of household waste) • Tackling social problems in urban centers • Improving information and communication in urban centers

Creation and preservation of quality of public/common spaces Infrastructure purchase, buildings renovation and establishment of citizen service facilities, creation of parking spaces, traffic management, creation of public entertainment spaces, restoration of historical buildings and their integration in the urban net, preservation of monuments, creation of cultural infrastructures (theaters, concert halls, etc), etc. 2. Modernization of network infrastructures Expansion of sewage systems, waste management actions, recycling, monitoring systems etc.

Improvement of energy efficiency Actions for improving energy efficiency of public buildings, use of RES, etc. 4. Reinforcement of innovation and entrepreneurship Use of new technologies in public services to the citizens, actions for supporting entrepreneurs etc. 5. Sustainable upgrade of natural and constructed environment Restoration of buildings, creation / upgrade / protection and reformation of public spaces and green spaces, flood prevention, hazard prevention etc. 6. Enhancement of local economy and local labor market and improvement of attractiveness for developing entrepreneurial activitiesCreation of local employment offices, infrastructure for touristic facilities, incubators, etc.

Promotion / development of social infrastructures Reinforcement of educational infrastructures, youth centers, vocational training centers, life long learning centers etc. 8. Promotion of efficient and affordable urban mobility systems Actions for improving the urban mobility (traffic control measures, parking spaces, purchase of public transport vehicles, bicycle paths, etc.), improvement of municipal road network and enhancement of accessibility. 9. Social cohesion Improvement of infrastructures for health care (adult care centers, health care centers, child care infrastructures, immigrant reception centers, drug prevention centers, etc.)
