6. How does Academix work? The parent, teacher or facilitator can control certain parameters, OR the user may be allowed to choose . The following Parameters may be changed by the user: • Reading and spelling speed. • Choice of exercise: • Test Reading speed • Progressive Reading • Eye movement reading • Fixation read with 3, 2 or 1 fixations • Mark read with 3, 2 or 1 fixations • Applied reading • Flash words or phrase flash exercises • Choose reading lesson

7. Reading or spelling speed • Reading Speed: • Reading speed can be adjusted in all reading exercises, except for when reading speed is determined. • Reading speed is measured in words per minute. • Reading speed is not dependant on the speed of the computer. • The program keeps record of reading speed of each completed exercise. • Reading speed can be controlled by the user, parent or facilitator. • Flash-or Spelling speed: • Flash speed is measured in milliseconds. • Words or phrases are flashed on the screen for a set time. The user must then type the correct word or phrase on the keyboard. • Different exercises are influenced by flash speed, i.e. flash words and flash phrase exercises, as well as most of the games. • Flash exercises can also be utilized as memory and concentration exercises.

8. Test Reading Speed • The Program starts off with this exercise: • This exercise sets the tempo at which the reader should start their exercises. • Once the reader’s ability has been established, the reading speed can be adjusted accordingly. • The reader’s reading skills can now be developed by applying the different reading techniques. • This exercise should also be done at the end of the program: • After completion of a range of exercises, the above exercise should be repeated to establish an improvement in the reader’s reading skills. • In the leaner mode, the results of reading exercises and comprehension tests can be viewed by the user as graphs. • In the teacher mode, the teacher can view all learners results as well as print a report for each learner.

14. Choice of reading exercises The lessons for each level is shown; the reader must choose by clicking on the lesson. On the left are the different exercises that can also be done in the Fun with Words Division.

15. Flash exercises: Similarities The learner should focus on the picture in the middle and simultaneously look at all 5. The picture similar to the one in the middle, should be chosen.

16. Flash exercise: Sequencing The learner should "Drag en Drop" the pictures to correct spaces. It is the order in which it was flashed on screen.

17. What entails a lesson inAcademix ? • The program contains between 10 and 20 lessons on each level. Each lesson comprises of a reading piece, comprehension test, spelling, phrases from reading piece, a picture, stimulus questions about the picture as well asdifferent gamesthat are connected to the lesson. • There are also exercises that could be done independently from the lesson. • Any of the above may be changed or adjusted by the user. • The user can add lessons regarding the content on each of the above-mentioned areas. • Your own lessons can be added in any language.

Lessons can be typed or scanned and saved as “text” format. Lessons can also be copied in Windows and pasted. All aspect of the lesson, i.e. reading piece, questions and spelling etc. can be added in this manner. • With the powerful "Engine" of Academix it is possible to incorporate reading material in any subject. The Results of all the lessons can be monitored by the parent. • Even the pictures can be added for any lesson. • Lessons can be added in any language. • Lessons can also be printed.
