  2. Definition… • “the maximum number of organisms an ecosystem can support” • Dependent on limiting factors: • Food • Shelter • Disease • Sunlight • Oxygen

  3. Graph 1 • The number of organisms steadily increases until it reaches K, then steadies. This is how plant populations tend to increase.

  4. Graph 2 • Population oscillates above and beneath, constantly correcting itself closer and closer to the K line. This is how many bird populations stabilize over time.

  5. Graph 3 • Population cycles between “boom” and “bust” periods. This graph shows how mice populations fluctuate.
