EDP(External Diploma Program) • Independent study + work submitted • Based on life skills/work experience • All work is untimed • Program takes 6-12 months GED(General Education Development) • Classes + exam • Based on high school academics • Test is timed • Test is 8 hours EDP(External Diploma Program) • Independent study + work submitted • Based on life skills/work experience • All work is untimed • Program takes 6-12 months VS.

More Differences GED(General Education Development) • Tests on algebra & geometry • Earn your High School Diploma • Test includes writing a formal essay • $45 EDP(External Diploma Program) • Includes fractions, percents & decimals • Write a paragraph, resume & letters • Earn your High School Diploma • $200 (can be paid in installments) VS.

  4. Who is EDP for? • EDP students are usually: • Somewhat older with more life and work experiences • Able to manage their family, work, and civic responsibilities • Self-directed and willing to do whatever it takes to complete educational goals

  5. What is EDP Like? • PHASE 1: Diagnostic • Program Advisor evaluates your skills • Writing • Survey of past life experiences • Career Inventory (on computer) • Job/Training Questionnaire • Must complete diagnostic section to begin Phase 2

What is EDP Like? • PHASE 2: Assessment • Attend scheduled meetings with Assessor • Submit workbooks that demonstrate • Writing • Mathematics • Problem solving • Reading comprehension • Critical thinking • Program Assessorevaluates completed materials to decide if you have demonstrated the “core competencies”

  7. What is an Assessment Meeting? • Private office visit with Assessor • A time to show Assessor you have mastered certain skills • Meetings include: • Spot Check Interviews • Speaking • Perform problems • Frequency: • 1 day per week • 1-1.5 hours per visit

  8. How much work is it? • 5 workbooks • 65 activities • You make your own schedule • Work at home and in the EDP office

  9. What is 100% Competency? • Learners must complete all work correctly to finish the program • Incorrect work can be made up • You decide your pace
