  1. Chapter 1 Section 1 Branches of Earth Science

  2. Geology • The study of the origin, history, and structure of the Earth and the process that shapes the Earth. • Everything to do with solid Earth • Example careers- volcanologist, seismologist, paleontologist

  3. Oceanography • The scientific study of the sea. • Types of oceanography: • Physical oceanography • Biological oceanography • Geological oceanography • Chemical oceanography.

  4. Meteorology • The study of The Earth’s atmosphere, especially in relation to weather and climate. • Most common career in meteorology is weather forecasting.

  5. Astronomy • The study of the universe. • To infinity and beyond!

  6. Special Branches of Earth Science(Branches that rely on multiple branches of science) • Environmental Science-the study of how humans interact with the environment (Geology, life science, chemistry, and physics ) • Ecology- the study of organisms and their nonliving environment • Geochemistry- combines the study of geology and chemistry • Geography and Cartography- educated in geology, biology, and physics study the surface features of Earth and make maps of them.
