  2. Who is the ‘they’ the man is talking about on page 265? • Blood Cults • Others who are being slowed down by the woman…

  3. Why does the boy not want the man to tell him a story? • The boy knows that the stories are untrue and that his father makes them up to give some hope. • The boy may be giving up hope.

  4. What is the significance in the boy telling the man that he had heard him crying (270)? • He is acknowledging to this father that he knows that his father is not invincible. • He is suggesting to his father that he doesn’t have to be the brave one anymore.

  5. According to the man, what was the bravest thing he ever did (272)? • Getting up this morning.

  6. On page 275, they leave the cart behind what foreshadowing does this display? • This cart signified their home, their lifeline, therefore it signifies the end.

How close do these predictions come to the details provided in the story? Once you have finished your research, write a short essay and then prepare a presentation for the class on your findings.
