  1. Design and Structural Details Proposed Fish Screen Facility • Objective • Design Criteria • Input for Design • Fish Screen Schematic • Summary

  2. Objective • “Protection and Least Disturbance to Migrating Fish Species” • Design Approach to Meet Objective -Low approach velocity -Adequate cleaning system -Solution for sedimentation issues -Hydraulic and structural integrity -Good access -Reasonable operation and maintenance

  3. Design Criteria • Guidelines by NMFS and DFG • Biological Considerations • Hydrological and Hydraulic Requirements • Specific Criteria • Approach velocity 0.2 ft/s • Bar opening 0.0689” (1.75 mm) • Gross opening (27% of gross area) • Cleaning frequency of 5 minutes

  4. Design Criteria (cont) • Listed relevant criteria and sent out for review -DFG (Jim Starr) -Interior (Reclamation) -Consultants (CH2M Hill, Darryl Hayes) • Reviewed performance of existing fish screens Outcome--A set of design criteria

  5. Input for Design • Data - Capacity: 1500 cfs at low stage 2250 cfs at high stage - 100 Year flood stage - Tidal stage variations - Topography - Soil conditions and geotechnical information

  6. Fish Screen Schematic Plan

  7. Fish Screen Schematic Elevation

  8. Summary • Meets biological, hydraulic and hydrological criteria • Better control on approach velocity • More efficient cleaning • More reliable screens, less failure and damage • Better operation and maintenance • Feedback from members
