  1. Lesson 47Relationship between plants and animals

  2. All of the organisms in an ecosystem have interconnected relationships.

  3. Plants and animals have a very dependent relationship.

  4. Animals cannot survive without plants, and many species of plants would die out without the carbon dioxide and fertilizer that come from animals.

  5. Plants produce oxygen as a byproduct, which is one of the most necessary elements animals need in order to survive.

  6. When they exhale, animals produce carbon dioxide, which is combined with sunlight and water to produce food that plants consume.

  7. Plants provide habitats for a variety of animals.

  8. For instance, many species of birds construct nests out of twigs and build these nests up in trees.

  9. Plants provide shade for protection from the hot sun for animals.

  10. Herbivorous animals consume many plants.

  11. All animals are dependent on plants for food, as even carnivorous animals must eat herbivorous animals.

  12. Dead animals decompose and release nutrients into the soil.

  13. The waste products of animals also fertilize soil.

  14. These nutrients aid plants in growing.

  15. The pitcher plant and the Venus flytrap actually capture insects in order to use them as fertilizer.

  16. Animals are needed by some plants to disperse seeds.

  17. Bees and other insects help pollinate flowers.

  18. Earthworms aerate the soil so that the roots of plants can better obtain oxygen.

  19. Relationships between animals and plants are complicated. The food chain begins with the Sun shining on plants.

  20. The plants use sunlight for energy to make food. The plants are at the base of the food chain.

  21. Let’s watch a video about animals, plants and the exchange of energy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWvtRf4TAO4

  22. All of the organisms in an ecosystem have interconnected relationships.

  23. Factors that impact one population within an ecosystem may impact other populations within that ecosystem.

  24. Factors that impact population within an ecosystem. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0OtFAt2Iss

  25. Let’s review what we have learned from this lesson. Answer the attached questions on the worksheet entitled L#47 relationship between plants and animals.

  26. In our next lesson we will review what we have learned about Ecosystems from this unit.

  27. Good Job Today! And remember to….

  28. See you next time!
