  3. A Simple Plan for a Great Talk • Start with a clear Topic • List Three Major Points About My Topic • Write an Introduction and Conclusion • Write Detail Bullets For Each Major Point • Use PowerPoint to Turn My Outline into a Presentation

  4. Start with a clear Topic • Be Concise • Be Realistic • Choose Something I Know or can research

  5. List Three Major Points About My Topic • Limit the number because the time is short • Express them as a brief phrase • You may expand on these as you talk

  6. Write an Introduction and Conclusion • These should be written because they are critical to the talk • Include your major points in each • Choose your words carefully

  7. Write Detail Bullets For Each Major Point • Limit these because of time • List about three for each major point • Be concise

  8. Use PowerPoint to Turn My Outline into a Presentation • Use the outline view • Use the major commands • ENTER, TAB, and SHIFT-TAB • Select a Slide Design • FORMAT…SLIDE DESIGN • Run Spell Check • Insert images by using NSERT...PICTURE • Save the file to use when I speak

  9. Conclusion • Well organized talks convey information in a powerful way • Deciding what to say is a "process", not an "event“ • Having a plan can make the talk fun and not a nightmare
