  3. Slide 3 It was invented in 1816 in France. In 1851, Arthur Leared invented a binaural stethoscope, and in 1852 George Cammann perfected the design of the instrument for commercial production, which has become the standard ever since. However, Cammann did not patent his device since he thought an useful instrument for the medical profession should be given to the profession. Ford modified the piece that comes in contact with the patient's skin and patented this device.

  4. Slide 4 • The stethoscope is long and has two ear tubes and you put the ear tubes in your ear and the other end too some ones chest too check the heart rate. • The stethoscope is an instrument for listening to sounds inside the human body for diagnostic purposes. Until the stethoscope was invented, clinical examination of patients was largely limited to external observations. • Read more: Stethoscope, Information about Stethoscopehttp://www.faqs.org/health/topics/28/Stethoscope.html#ixzz1icJ3MzBp

  5. Slide 5 • The stethoscope (from Greekστηθοσκόπιο, from στήθος, stéthos - chest and σκοπή, skopé - examination) is an acoustic medical device for auscultation, or listening to the internal sounds of an animal body. It is often used to listen to lung and heart sounds. It is also used to listen to intestines and blood flow in arteries and veins. In combination with a sphygmomanometer, it is commonly used for measurements of blood pressure. Less commonly, "mechanic's stethoscopes" are used to listen to internal sounds made by machines, such as diagnosing a malfunctioning automobile engine by listening to the sounds of its internal parts. Stethoscopes can also be used to check scientific vacuum chambers for leaks, and for various other small-scale acoustic monitoring tasks. A stethoscope that intensifies auscultatory sounds is called phonendoscope. • The stem for stethoscopes with dual diaphragms has a valve with a steel ball ....The stethoscope changed little until the beginning of the 20th cent. when the end of it changed now there are two ear holes and they go into each ear and you put the other end on the male/female chest too check there blood pulse and heart rate. • www.answers.com/topic/stethoscope
