  3. Background • Bovine passport data is stored in national databases • The passport must follow an animal that moves between Member States • Due to e.g. varying internal formats this is typically done on paper TRACES Seminar Palermo

  5. Objective • Provide a generic “broker” service for passport exchange between authorities • Allow both manual or automated access • Verify correctness of transmitted data • Cater for legal requirements (audit trail) • Build on proven standards and technologies TRACES Seminar Palermo

  6. What will be exchanged? • National DBs differ, so not a complete copy of passport from national database • Only ID data according to Directive 64/432/EEC • Format determined by agreed data dictionary and schema • Future versions may have additional features TRACES Seminar Palermo

  7. Exporting country’s view • Upload passport data to exchange • Verification of data: • Correctness • TRACES certificate • Initiate transfer • Cancel, modify, monitor… TRACES Seminar Palermo

  11. Some technical details • The protocol used will be XML (XSD schemas available) • Web Services APIs will be provided for system-to-system solutions • Will build on services from SANCO “XMLGate” (existing and proven SANCO technology) TRACES Seminar Palermo

  12. Version 1.0 • Handles passport data according to Directive 64/432/EEC • Pilot run 1st half 2010 • Target release: 2nd half 2010 • Later versions may allow additional data (health history, UN/CEFACT data, …) TRACES Seminar Palermo
