  1. Squirrels Squirrels are quick and cheerful animals who spend their time scurrying, scavenging, and playing. They are often seen jumping happily from branch to branch up in the treetops. Squirrels are foragers searching for nuts and seeds, and they are social animals often seen chasing and playing with other squirrels.

  2. A key component in each of these is rain. Without adequate rain, a squirrel's habitat and family can be destroyed. Without a suitable environment with enough food and rain, squirrels may move into human dwellings, like attics, chimneys and barns and create a mess for whoever might live there.

  3. When a male finds a female squirrel, he begins to court her. Just like the male squirrels love to mate, so do the females.

  4. Squirrels are usually born in the early Spring. The average litter consists of four baby squirrels. This varies with climate and location.

  5. Squireel babies with their nest

  6. In the winter, the squirrel will complete its activities between dawn and mid-day, and will remain in or around the nest until the next day. During winter storms or severe cold, the squirrel may not leave the nest for days.

  7. In the summer, squirrels are most active two to three hours after sunrise, resting in the afternoon and resuming activity again two hours before sunset. The squirrel will retire to its nest well before dark, and will rarely leave the nest in the dark.

  8. Squireel drink water in summer season from public tap
