Providing equal access to learning environment. • Support for visual impaired students converting text into braille. • Dyslexic support note takers and strategies to assist the student. • In Class and break time support. • Equipment and resources support.

  4. What are Essential Skills Literacy (English) Numeracy (Maths)

  5. Initial Assessment • The students individual tutors will be advised of the results and given recommendations for Each student will take the initial computer based assessment. Essential Skills

  6. Essential Skills Sessions • Upon request from the tutors the students will be given timetabled sessions. These sessions are where the students will be given specific underpinning knowledge for literacy and Numeracy qualifications.

  7. Essential Skills These sessions are also to help students improve their underpinning skill for main course assignments.

  8. National Tests Adult certificate in Literacy and numeracy. National test are on-line tests and from the same bank of questions as the Key Skills end test. As the National test are the same as the Key Skills test and they can be used as a proxy towards the Key Skill. Available on a daily basis at Ardleigh Green twice a week at Quarles and Harrow Lodge.

  9. National Tests All students will be entered for the national test at the level indicated by their initial assessment/s. However, those students with English or Maths A-C grades are exempt The students will gain a nationally recognised qualification on achievement.
