  2. French & Indian War • Causes : Territorial expansion of North American colonies. • Effects: Great Britain's need for financial support from North American colonies.

  3. Proclamation of 1763 • Prohibited settlement in areas beyond the Appalachians.

  4. First Continental Congress • A meeting in Philadelphia to consider ways of reddressing colonial grievances. • Georgia was not in attendance.

  5. Sugar Act • British parliament passed first ever tax on colonies in an attempt to raise revenue for crown.

  6. Currency Act • Regulated paper money in the colonies.

  7. Quartering Act • Required certain colonies to provide food and quarters for British troops.

  8. Stamp Act • Mandated the use of stamped paper or the affixing of stamps, certifying payment of tax.

  9. Townshend Act • A tax on custom duties payable at American ports.

  10. Coercive Acts • Five acts passed in response to the Boston Tea Party.

  11. Boston Massacre • Clash between colonists and British troops, leading to the death or injury of 11 citizens.

  12. Tea Act (Boston Tea Party & Sons of Liberty) • Tax on Tea. • Reaction to the Tea Act • Participated in the Boston Tea Party

  13. Quebec Act • Created to establish resettlement of French subjects after the French and Indian war.

  14. Common Sense • Pamphlet written by Thomas Paine to support revolution from Great Britain.

  15. Second Continental Congress • Acted as the de facto national government for the colonies during the American Revolution.

  16. Declaration of Independence • Written by Thomas Jefferson. List of grievances against King George III. • Written to justify Colonial independence to the world.
