I Spy Nouns Nouns are often known as ‘naming words’ because they can name people, places, objects and ideas. • Noun phrases • Noun phrases are words that, when grouped together, perform the same function as a noun. • Words can go before the noun or after the noun. e.g. the loud drums noun noun phrase

  7. I Spy Prepositions Prepositions are words that show the relationship of a noun, pronoun or noun phrase to another part of a sentence. Prepositions often describe locations or movements but they can describe time too. Location: above, behind, below, beside, between, by, in, inside, near, on, over, through Time: after, before, by, during, from, on, past, since, through, to, until, upon Movement: against, along, down, from, into, off, on, onto, out of, toward, up, upon Preposition phrases A preposition phrase is made up of a preposition, along with the noun, pronoun or noun phrase that follows it. e.g. the loud drums behind preposition noun phrase preposition phrase
