  1. ‘FOUNDATIONS’James Graham Marquis of Montrose 1612 - 1650 Montrose, your strength is like the rock on which you place your hand Unwavering, your beliefs are built on solid foundations Although the turbulent waters have come to wet your eyes The steepest mountain you will climb, determined no defeat The only way a man like you will lose all battles won Is with one word betrayal, then they turn and run Treacherous villains sitting high and low The rock they have crushed The waters have come to drown him He tumbles down the steep mountain side, Montrose becomes still Scoundrels you've taken him out of your midst, thinking such a force would be forgotten His memory you will not touch, as it lives on till this day Montrose continues to climb the steepest mountains His foundations remain strong just like the rock The live oak tree is the strongest, its branches spread far and wide There are so many families They all sit upon each branch so proud just knowing That at the top there is a man Laird of Clan Graham guiding them on James Graham the 5th Earl and 1st Marquis of Montrose held the reigns Sir William de Grahame was the very first, each Chief has his blood in his veins 8th Duke of Montrose holds the title; Chief of Clan Graham Born in 1973, James Graham, Marquis of Graham will one day become Chief of the Clan However since the beginning , Montrose seems to stand alone No one can take away his triumphs or his tribulations, there were also many woes Does it appear that Montrose seems the most important Graham of them all? It is the man and who he was; they felt for him so much love He will never have to trouble himself with the churning water of the roughest wave The turbulence he left behind on that fateful day Montrose will be remembered, for all these things and more But treacherous betrayers have also gone down in history They are known, but they deserve no recognition here Because along the water’s edge, where Montrose stands in that final pose Under the sand of Montrose’s feet are those who were disloyal He’s climbed back up on top of them all, to never fall again Eternally frozen in time, so shall the betrayers remain forever beneath him Oh look at the sky and at the clouds behind Montrose, oh yes the sky it is so blue Then look at the man’s mouth, can you see the tiny smile It also has a meaning, the angels will wait--he has a date The Good Lord has not forgotten him.
