Most notable accomplishments • First to accurately establish mechanical equivalent of heat: 1 cal = 4.184 J (4.15) • Worked out resistive heating Q=I2Rt (at 22) • Showed that heat is caused by motion
Other accomplishments • Measured heat associated with every conceivable process.
