3rd WLE Mobile Learning Symposium: 27th March 2009 WLE Centre Institute of Education London Principles behind the mobile killer application in education • Mr Kim Whittlestone, BVetMed MRCVS • Royal Veterinary College, London
“KILLER APPlication” • One that ‘alone is reason enough to buy a device or sign up to a subscription’ Tomi Ahonen • One that enhances the learning experience, making it both highly effective and enjoyable - a ‘honey pot for learning’
“Nothing is as practical as a good theory” Kurt Lewin, German Psychologist 1890-1947
Principles • Learning ecosystem • Simplicity & challenge • The ‘Reference Point’ & ROI
1. Learning ecosystem • “I felt awkward just pulling out a mobile device in front of a client/clinician as you lose eye contact and they feel that you are not paying attention to them. Same as you talking on phone or playing a video game in front of a client.” • “I was able to look up info for one of the vets on Aujesky’s whilst out on a call – vet found extremely useful”
